This piece has been sitting in my sketchbook for almost a year, screaming to be created. I started modelling Poison Ivy with every intention of putting her in a piece with Harley Quinn, but the model was never quite high enough in quality.
Over the last 6 months, I've modelled her from scratch 3 different times, tried several different outfits and textures, multiple hair styles, a dozen different poses, and even a couple alternate backdrops. It just never felt right.
This past weekend, I sequestered myself in my studio and told myself I'd finish her one way or another. Several sleepless nights and it's finally ready to be shared. I have a laundry list of items I'd like to alter/tweak/experiment on, but I have to call it done or I'll end up starting all over again.
*EDIT* - Several comments were made about her hair needing to be more red, so I decided to mess with it a bit and redden it up. I admit, it does look better.
ya know, Uma Thurman and by extensioni, joel shoemaker, put a bad taste in my mouth about this character. This image just fixed that. I luv it! very well done. instant fav!

Thanks for the compliment. I did a ton of research during this piece and came across the photos of the Uma Thurman version. I'd forgotten about that wild hair he gave her! The only element I kept from her version were the stripes on her tights.
Thanks. I thought about having the ivy wrapping a bit tighter in 'certain regions' and considered going so far as to have her in subtle bondage with the vines, but opted for a more PG version since I want to send this to DC for consideration.

I think the render is awesome, the face is spot on, the composition is fantastic, and as usual, your painting in Photoshop is so utterly precise, it's insane.
My only criticism is that I just feel that the colors are dulled out and flat. If there's one thing Poison Ivy's known, its her lovely red tresses, which she's missing. Her hair is hazel in this image. But beyond that, using a darker green to the shadows of a lighter green is what's getting to me the most I think. Setting a layer over this in Photoshop and setting it to multiply then veeery lightly airbrushing the shadows in as blue hues, and red over the hair would make this image really sing.
Interesting comments. I had tried more vibrant reds to begin with and the look was a little too reminiscent of Uma Thurman's version of Ivy - the red appeared 'dyed' and not realistic at all. I researched red hair on the net and created a palette from the ones that were both natural and not too light/orange. I could perhaps redden it a tad, but I don't want to make it artificial in appearance.
As far as the shadows go, they started off kinda bluish and the piece felt cold. I'd warmed them up a bit, but possiblt too far. I'm just hesitant to re-open the file anymore, for fear of getting into an eternal tweak-spiral
